Board of Directors Open Positions
The Connecticut State Independent Living Council (CT SILC) is recruiting for a pool of applicants interested in serving on its Board of Directors. CT SILC is a federally mandated, statewide, nonprofit organization. Through our many projects and initiatives, CT SILC works to promote independent living for people with disabilities in our state. The Board of Directors is the governing body of the organization and is responsible for the overall operation of the CT SILC. The CT SILC Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor and a majority of the Directors must be people with disabilities who are not employed at the Centers for Independent Living. The work of the CT SILC is enormous, and we really need active board members who can help the CT SILC to fulfill its mandate. We need you!
The CT SILC is striving to maintain a Board that meets its federal requirements but is rich in its disability, race, ethnicity, gender, and geographic representation in Connecticut. The CT SILC Board Recruitment Committee is responsible for continuously recruiting individuals to serve on the Board and maintaining a pool of applicants who are willing to become Directors when a Board seat becomes available.
The CT SILC develops and monitors the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL), a three-year plan to improve independent living opportunities in Connecticut. This plan includes developing or changing legislation and policy, educating our communities, and actively working to ensure that all people with disabilities can live a good life in the community of their choice.
CT SILC is part of a national network of State Independent Living Councils. There are State Councils and Centers for Independent Living in every state. In Connecticut, there are five Centers for Independent Living that are staffed and directed by people with disabilities to provide advocacy, peer support, training, and information to assist individuals with disabilities in their region.
Please consider completing an application to join our board of directors and help the CT SILC improve the lives of people with disabilities in Connecticut. If you cannot apply, perhaps you can share this application with others who might be interested.
